Today doesn’t need to be great. It just needs to move.

Mindset Monday

Personally, two days of sitting around during an ice storm has me feeling a little sluggish and unmotivated. I would love nothing more than one more day on the couch, watching football while eating anything and everything in site!

Today might not be the most productive day of my life, but I will be sure to accomplish what I can, no matter how small, to make sure today is net positive. A 10-minute walk is better than nothing. Reading just one chapter is better than nothing. Reaching out to my manager with a question is better than nothing.

Mindset Exercise of the Week: Response Rehearsal

Adversity is inevitable. Take a few minutes today to mentally prepare for adversity before it happens. Think of one realistic challenge you might face in your game, in your day, in your line of work or craft.

For lacrosse players gearing up for training and spring play:

  • A missed shot

  • A turnover

  • A bad call

  • A tough practice or frustrating rep

Then immediately picture your response:

  • One calm breath

  • Strong body language

  • Eyes up

  • Immediate next action

Our intent is not to be perfect. Our intent is to move from one play to another without allowing what has happened to negatively impact what is about to happen.

Progress over perfection!

A Quick Reminder:

It's cool to be kind, today and again tomorrow. Ask the barista about her day! Tell the cashier at Chipotle you appreciated that extra scoop of rice! Tell your buddy you like his new shirt (even though you don’t)!

The most secure people do not make jokes at the expense of others, rather, they lift others up.

Be quick to compliment and slow to criticize. It is free to be kind.

Thought of the Week:

You aren’t going to have the same energy level everyday. There will be days that you simply do not want to practice. Whether it was a bad day at school, a poor night’s sleep, or a fight with your sister, you are going to have days where you just aren’t “feeling it”.

Sometimes you just have to fake it! Fake a good attitude: over communicate, high five everyone that walks by, do a little dance while you're getting warmed up. Your nervous system doesn’t know you are “faking it”, and soon, you will forget as well.

Songs of the Week:

  • “Colorado” by Congress the Band

  • “Red Bandana” by Noah  Rinker

  • “No sleep” by Caamp
